El Romero is a traditional farmhouse wrapping round a large central courtyard with gardens and endless secret areas beyond. The house itself is huge with high ceilings and large spaces filled with exquisite furnishings, detailed fabrics and colourful rugs. Full of windows and doors painted in a striking blue, there is a wonderful amount of light that streams through this house accentuating the colours and washed walls. Inside and out the owner has transformed this into a beautiful luxury villa with a typical rustic touch and Moroccan influence, all effortlessly blending into one another. The location of El Romero is exquisite within eleven acres of cork forest, woodlands, olive and almond groves. The scenery is stunning with a view of Gaucin’s ancient floodlit Moorish castle, Castillo Aguila (Eagle’s Castle) and views across the valley of Rio Genal. Although the atmosphere is of a remote retreat, engulfed in its surroundings, Gaucin is only a few minutes’ drive or a fifteen minute walk up the typically rustic track. This villa is divine.

There is a 42”television with freeview satellite television, music and a DVD player. A large centralized fireplace is surrounded by plenty of seating and wonderful treasures with an intriguing collection of books and antiques.
The kitchen is at the end of this room, ending the side of the main wing. This large country style kitchen looks out over the central courtyard and has all the cooking facilities and tools you could possibly require. There is also a well equipped laundry area for your use.
On the other side of the living, dining and entrance room are blue french doors opening up onto a massive terrace with a covered al-fresco dining area. There is a grand table with views of the Castillo Aguila together with a lounging area full of comfortable outdoor chairs and sofas with delightful Moroccan coverings and two huge brick barbeque’s at either end. ( Also used as fireplaces in the colder months. ) Steps lead down to more terracing and the formal gardens> below. These are beautifully kept with many wonderful delights to be found including fountains, draping greenery and shady corners.
Now we go back to the main entrance door where there are two grand staircases sweeping up either side of the door as you enter. These take you up to the main double bedrooms. Designed with pure elegance, sumptuous style and ambience, the rooms really are stunning. The bedroom to the right (bedroom 1) has an en-suite with walk-in shower and a bathtub and views once again are fabulous overlooking the mountain side and castle. At the top of the stairway to the left is the other double bedroom (bedroom 2). This also has an en-suite with a walk in shower bath tub and a dressing room.
The top of this staircase also gives access to terraces extending round the main part of the house and to the roof terrace. Located outside this door and along the terrace is a twin bedroom (bedroom 3) with en-suite shower room. The Moroccan influence in this room is delightful with arched doorways and a fantastic blue Arabic dome in the ceiling. This is a delightful room.
Moving back downstairs and to the right of the entrance door this adventurous house continues. There is a second living area to relax in if you need some peace, with an open fireplace and wonderful paintings and furnishings. From here the house flows round the courtyard along a corridor to a further two double bedrooms (Bedrooms 4 and 5) with en-suite bathrooms. Both rooms lead out to a private terrace on the outside of the house where you can admire the woodland area of the grounds and escape from the central courtyard. Another room separates these two bedrooms with doors leading to both outdoor areas. Here there is some gym equipment, nothing too strenuous, but just enough to keep you active during your stay.
The final wing which wraps once again around the courtyard includes a small kitchenette, dining and living area. The kitchen area is basic but adequate and there is a small television in the living area. Once again the rooms here are light and colourful with comfortable furniture and doors leading to the courtyard. Leading on from here is a large twin bedroom (bedroom 6) with en-suite bathroom with a shower head over the bath. The final bedroom (7) is up a few steps from the kitchenette, with a canopied double bed and en-suite shower room. Doors open to another private terrace looking out to the grounds beyond. This area is perfect for a family needing a little privacy or early morning breakfast. All the doors and windows are painted in fabulous colours allowing a wonderful amount of light to lift these rooms.
The last of the delights of this villa is certainly not to be missed. A pathway leads down from the main house to the private pool area. Totally secluded and secure by the gates and walls that surround it, this beautifully landscaped pool is marvellous. The pool itself is a glorious blue with an infinity edge looking across spectacular views. It uses salt water making it incredibly inviting and is powered by solar heating. The main pool is 100 m square with a depth of 2metres and a great size at 11m x 15.5m. There is also a separate shallow pool area for children.
